Something about Macarena that’s important to know is that her goal is to create a lyrical safe space for her listeners. In addition she writes music that’s reflective and puts self-exploration at the centre. All these elements tie in with her LGBT+ experiences. For example, her lates singles ‘Paradise‘ and ‘Libre‘ are a testament of that.
She is born and raised in Amsterdam and makes music that’s a blend of neosoul, R&B and alternative pop. Furthermore, Macarena writes in Spanish. Making her latin roots a part of her art. She discovered her love for music while listening to jazz with her dad and developed her writing skills by writing poems during her teens. Because Macarena kept evolved these skills she was able to write her first song ‘Mind‘ (Prod. by RINZ.) and released it in 2017. Subsequently Macarena went on to release her debut EP ‘Rebirth‘ in 2018 and followed it up with multiple single releases. One of them being ‘Something New‘ (Prod. by Lady Groove) which earned Macarena her 1st spot on Spotify editorial playlists ‘New music Friday Latin’, ‘Are & Be Latin’ and ‘Fresh Finds’.
